Define Alternate Part Revisions
Explanation
Use this activity to define which revisions of
alternate parts are interchangeable with each other. You can copy lines from
another engineering part revision or from the part catalog, or you can enter lines
manually. 
Prerequisites
- The relationship between primary and alternate parts must have been set up on the 
Alternate Parts
tab of the Part window.
- 
Both the primary and alternate part must have an engineering part 
revision.
- IFS/Vehicle Information Management must have been installed.
System Effects
The specified part revisions are allowed to replace
each other in a serial structure.

Procedure
To define which revisions of
alternate parts are interchangeable with each other, perform 
one or several of the following 
procedures.
Note: The following procedures, when performed using Engineering Part
Navigator/Alternate Part Revisions is relevant for web. For all the
operations in web using this window, click Actions. 
Copy alternate parts from another engineering part 
revision:
  - Open the 
	Engineering Part Revision
    or 
	Engineering Part 
  Navigator window and populate it.
- In the Part Number  list (or Selected Part
    list), select the number of the primary part.
    The revision number, part description, and status
    automatically appear in the adjacent fields.
- Click the 
	Alternate Part Revisions tab.
    All parts and revisions previously established as valid alternates are shown
    in the Alternate Part Number and Alternate Part Revision fields,
    respectively.
- Right-click
    anywhere on the 
	Alternate Part Revisions  tab and then click Copy
    Alternate  Parts from Part Revision. A dialog box appears whose title bar
    identifies to which primary part the alternate part revision is to be copied
    (this is the primary part shown in the header of the main window). 
- In the Part Number and  Revision fields of the dialog
    box, enter the part number and revision, respectively, or select both values
    from the List of Values. 
- Click OK. The alternate part revision
    entered for the primary part is now available on the 
	Alternate Part Revisions 
    tab. 
Copy alternate parts from the part catalog:
  - Open the 
	Engineering Part Revision
    or 
	Engineering Part 
  Navigator window and populate it.
- In the Part Number  list (or Selected Part
    list), select the number of the primary part.
    The revision number, part description, and status
    automatically appear in the adjacent fields.
- Click the 
	Alternate Part Revisions tab.
    All parts and revisions previously established as valid alternates are shown
    in the Alternate Part Number and Alternate Part Revision fields,
    respectively.
- To retrieve information from the part catalog 
  record, right-click and then click Copy
    Alternate Parts from Part Catalog. The 
	Copy Alternate Parts from
    Part Catalog dialog box appears, showing the primary part and
    revision in the header as well as the alternate part number in the table
    below.
- Enter the applicable revision
    in the Alternate Part Rev field.  
- Click OK. All lines with a defined 
  revision will be copied to the 
	Alternate Part Revisions tab 
  window.
Enter new alternate parts manually:
  - Open the 
	Engineering Part Revision
    or 
	Engineering Part 
  Navigator window and populate it.
- In the Part Number  list (or Selected Part
    list), select the number of the primary part.
    The revision number, part description, and status
    automatically appear in the adjacent fields.
- Click the 
	Alternate Part Revisions tab.
    All parts and revisions previously established as valid alternates are shown
    in the Alternate Part Number and Alternate Part Revision fields,
    respectively.
- Create a
    new record.
- Enter values in the Alternate Part Number and Alternate
    Part Revision fields.
