Create New Serial From Inventory and Remote
Explanation
This activity is used to create a new serial. All the serials
received into inventory, which are not defined as serials, belonging to either
IFS/Vehicle Information Management (IFS/VIM) or IFS Maintenance, can be defined
as a VIM serial in the
Serials from Inventory window.
The serials that have been defined in remote inventories and then transferred to
a table in IFS/VIM, will also be visible in this window.
 These serials
might later be used in a VIM serial structure in connection with a work order.
When you enter a serial number, you have to enter values
that will update the
Part Serial window with information
on the new serial.
All access groups assigned to the serial part can be
viewed on the
Serial Structure Information/Access tab. If the serial is
access controlled, only the users assigned to the access groups that have the Has
Access check box selected can view and update information on the
serial.
When a new serial is created, the following will occur
in relation to the Access Control feature:
  - The serial will receive the access groups assigned
to the template structure to which the serial belongs.

- If the new serial is defined within a structure, the
serial will inherit the serial access groups from the topmost serial of the
structure. If the serial is not installed in a structure, it will receive
access defined for the part number and revision of the serial.

- If the parent of the new serial does not have a
serial number,  the serial will inherit the access from the nearest
parent that has a serial number in the structure. If the parent parts in the structure
does not have a serial number, the serial will inherit the
access defined for the part number and revision of the serial.
Prerequisites
  - The serial part number must be defined as a IFS/VIM serial part.
- The part must exist as a purchase part, and have at least one
    supplier
    defined.
- The new serials must be received into inventory and
    should not
exist as VIM objects or equipment objects.
- The new definition of the serials in the
Part Serial window, must have the value In Inventory or In
Current Position, and the Eng Part Revision field must have a valid value
    defined.
- The new serials must be received from remote inventories and should not
	exist as VIM objects.
System Effects
  - New serials will be ready to use in VIM
serial structures. Before the serial can be installed in a structure it must
	be issued from inventory.
- All access rights defined for the selected serial
    will be updated on the
	Serial Structure Information/Access tab.
- Serials that do not have defined access groups can
    be viewed by all users.
- The access rights for the serial can be updated by
using the right mouse button options on the Serial Structure Information/Access
    tab.

check box, the following right mouse button options must be used,

this option if you want to clear the Has Access check box, and
thereby deny access to the new serial by the selected access group.

option if you want to select the Has Access check box, and thereby
grant access to the new serial by the selected access group.

  of a structure.
