Install Serial
Explanation
This activity is used to install a serial into a serial structure. Before a
serial can be installed in a serial structure, observe the following guidelines
for a more accurate installation of the serial.
  - A serial with an operational status of Planned for Operation can only be
installed in a serial with the same operational status.
- A serial with an operational status of In Operation or Out Of Operation
can be installed in a serial with the following statuses: Planned For
Operation, In Operation and Out Of Operation.
- A serial with operational status Scrapped or Renamed cannot be
    installed in another serial.
- The serial to install cannot be locked.
- A serial can only be installed in a serial structure whose configuration
(serial structure template) allows it to be installed. This means that a
part number or revision combination not existing (as prime part or alternate)
in a level in the serial structure template cannot be installed in this
level in the serial structure, and vice versa. For more information, refer
	the activity Define
    Template Part.
- The quantity of a certain part number or revision combination in the serial
structure cannot exceed the number in the serial structure template.
- Alternate parts can be used in the serial structure as long as it has been
defined either as a template alternate or a position alternate in the serial
structure template. For more information, refer the activities Define
Alternate Parts per Position and Define
    Alternate Parts in Template.
- When installing serials to a structure position,
you are allowed to install any prime parts or valid alternates, provided
that the operational status of the structure was not changed from Planned
For Operation. Once the operational status of the structure is changed
from Planned For Operation, rules of interchangeability will be
applied and you will no longer be allowed to install alternate parts that do
not meet the validations for interchangeability of alternate parts. Note
that it is also possible to install any prime parts or alternates for
structure positions in completely new structures which are In
Operation or Out Of Operation, but where no parts are installed after
a structure change was performed.
- If the Life Limited field for the serial that are to
be connected has either Life Limited or Not Life Limited,
it must be allowed according to the setting in the template to connect this
    type of life-limited serial.
When a serial is installed in the structure, the
current location will be removed and the serial will receive the same location
as the top serial in the structure. If the serial to be installed exists in another structure or does not exist at all, a structure
mismatch log entry will be created in the Serial Structure
Mismatch Log window. A structure mismatch log will be created if a
structure change is done in IFS/Work Order Management or IFS/Shop Order.
If access control is established, you can use only the serials to which you have access.
Establishing access control is done by assigning a user to an access group defined in basic data. The access
groups will be used to extend access to all or selected parts and serials in a
structure. When a serial is installed in an existing structure position of the serial structure, it will receive
the access rights from the parent serial
in the structure. The serials below in the structure will also be updated with
these access rights.
Prerequisites
  - A structure position not occupied by the other parts or
serials must exist in the selected
structure before a serial can be installed.
- You must have access to the relevant serials to be
able to carry out a structure change.
System Effects
  - You will fit selected serialized parts to a predefined serial structure
position and create a historical record of the structure change.
- The structure position into which the serial is installed will become an
	installed structure position.
- If the installation causes a Mandatory type
dependency rule to be violated, the operational condition of the parent
serial will be set to Non Operational.
- The Item Installed check box will be selected for
	the installed serial.
-
If the serial installed is defined as an alternate with the interchangeability rule
Qualified Interchangeable, the alternate must be approved before the
  operational
condition for the structure can be set to Operational. For
more information, refer the activity Approve
    or Reject Structure Changes.
- For life-limited serials, before a serial is connected into a structure,
its Life Limited field will have the value "-" (not
decided). After the serial has been connected, the value of the Life
	Limited field will be changed
to Life Limited or Not Life Limited depending on the
setting in the template to which the part is connected.
- If the structure change is performed from a work order, a mismatch record
will be created if the installed serial is installed in another serial or
    does not exist.
- When the serial is installed in a structure, the
serial will receive access rights from the parent serial of the selected
    structure.

Procedure
Use this procedure to install a serial into a serial structure:
	- Open the Serial Structure Information window and query (F3) for
	the necessary structure.
- In the graphical object structure, select the
empty structure position into which the serial is to be installed,
right-click, point to Structure Changes, and then click Install
Serial. The Install Serial assistant opens.
Note: This assistant can also be opened from the
Consist Of tab, by right-clicking on a serial record, pointing to
Structure Changes, and then clicking Install Serial. When you are
working in this tab, and need to move down the structure, select the required
serial record, right-click and then click Next Level until the required
structure level is displayed.
	- The vehicle ID, top part number and top serial number appear
automatically in the Install or Swap into area.
- In the Structure Position field, enter the structure position in
which the serial is to be installed. A structure position must exist for a
serial to be installed in the structure. Click List to select a
	structure position currently unoccupied.
- Enter a value in the Part No/Rev field. Click List to
select a valid value. When a value is entered in this field, the values for
Serial Number and Inst. Date appear automatically.
- In the Workshop field, enter the workshop responsible for
installing the serial. Click List to select a valid value.
- If you want to connect the serial installation to a task, click List
to select a valid value for the Task Number field.
- In the Str. Change Date field, enter the date
and time the structure change is to be performed.
- Select the Unscheduled Removal? check box if this structure
change is to be an unscheduled removal.
- Select the Run in Batch? check box if you want access rights for
	the installed serial to be
	updated through a batch job.
- Click Finish to close the assistant and perform the structure
	change.
Use this procedure to perform a structure change, i.e., install serial, on a
work order in IFS/Work Order Management:
	- Open the Report In Work Order window and query (F3) for
	the desired work order.
- Click the Operations tab.
- Right-click on the required operation line, and then click Perform Structure Change. The
Structure Changes - Select Action step opens.
- Select Install Serial and then click Next. The Install
	Serial step opens.
Click List to select a valid value. When a value is entered in this
field, the values for Serial Number and Inst. Date appear
	automatically.
- The workshop to which the work order was
distributed appears automatically in the Workshop field. If
necessary, you can change to another workshop using the List of Values.

- In the Str. Change Date field, enter the
correct date and time the structure change is to be performed.

- Click Finish to close the assistant and
	perform the structure change.
Use this procedure to perform a structure change, i.e.,
install a serial in the structure of the vehicle on which the fault was
reported:
	- Open the Flight Log window and
populate (F2) or query (F3) for your flight log number and/or serial.
- Click the Fault tab and select the
relevant fault number from the Fault Number list.
- Right-click and click Perform Structure Change.
The Structure Changes - Select Action step opens.
- Verify that the Install Serial option is
selected and then click Next. The
	Install Serial step opens.
- Continue with steps 3 to 11 described in the in
	the first procedure listed above.
