Kanban Circuit—Key Exercises

IMPORTANT
It is extremely important that you set up and work within your own site to maintain your data integrity. If you work within any other site, you will compromise your own exercise data as well as the data of other students. Predictable exercise results require that your data be isolated in your own site.

Inventory Part

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show you the required Inventory Part data that is used in the exercises below.

  1. Open the Inventory Part window
  2. Select New (F5)
  3. Add a new Manufactured Inventory Part with the values specified in the table below
  4.  Field Value
    Part No RW100
    Description Wheel
    Part Type Manufactured
    Planner *
    U/M pcs
    Supply Type Schedule (Planning tab)
    Proposal Release Do Not Release (Planning tab)
  5. Add a new Purchased Inventory Part with the values specified in the table below
  6.  Field Value
    Part No RW200
    Description Tire
    Part Type Purchased
    Planner *
    U/M pcs
    Supply Type Order (Planning tab)
    Proposal Release Do Not Release (Planning tab)
  7. Save these changes (F12).

Production Line

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show you the required Production Line data that is used in the exercises below.

  1. Open the Production Line window.
  2. Select New (F5).
  3. Add a new Production Line with the values specified in the table below.
     Field Value
    Production Line RWL
    Description Racing wheel line
    Part No RW100 (Part tab)
    Location No Add one inbound and one outbound location (Location tab)
  4. Save these changes (F12).

Supplier for Purchase Part

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show you the required Supplier for Purchase Part data that is used in the exercises below.

  1. Open the Supplier for Purchase Part window.
  2. Select New (F5).
  3. Add a new Supplier for Purchase Part with the values specified in the table below.

    Part No RW200
    Supplier 177
    Price 2.50
  4. Save these changes (F12).

Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to demonstrate how to setup and manage Kanban circuits.

Kanban Circuit

Create Production Line Kanban Circuit

  1. Open the Kanban Circuit window.
  2. Select New (F5).
  3. Add a new Kanban Circuit with the values specified in the table below

Part No RW100
Supply To Location No Add a Picking location (not the same as specified for the production line)
Replenish Type Production Line
Replenish Source RWL
Signal Type Electronic
Qty Per Kanban 4
No of Kanbans 2
  1. Right click and Validate Circuit.
  2. Check that the result is "The Kanban Circuit is valid."
  3. Open the Inventory Part/Planning Data tab
  4. Select the RW100 part and change the Proposal Release field to Release.
  5. Validate the Kanban Circuit. What was the result?
  6. Change Proposal Release back to Do Not Release.

Create Supplier Kanban Circuit

  1. Open the Kanban Circuit window.
  2. Select New (F5).
  3. Add a new Kanban Circuit with the values specified in the table below
