Create Engineering Part
Explanation
Use this activity to create a new engineering part. When you create a new
engineering part, the system automatically inserts it into the part catalog. You
can create a revision at the same time by specifying the revision in the first
revision
column. If the engineering part you create already exists in the part catalog (i.e., the part is registered
as an inventory part), you must ensure that the unit code and standard name ID are identical
to the information in the part catalog.
Prerequisites
  - Standard names must exist on the Product
    Basic Data/Std. Name Lang tab.
- If you automatically want a default value for the first revision, the default
value for the Entry Code field on the
Product Basic Data/Defaults tab must have been registered as PART_REV.
- If you want to categorize the engineering parts using part classes, the part class must
    exist on the
	Product Basic
	Data/Classes. tab.
- If you want to categorize the engineering part using the part main groups, the main group
must exist on the Product Basic Data/Main
    Groups tab.
- If you set the value in Provide Code column to Phantom, the
relevant MPL Part field must have the value No
Demand. The Phantom parts can be copied to the structures in IFS/Project
Delivery but not to the structures in IFS/Manufacturing Standards.
The values of the Provide Code and MPL Part fields can be
modified for a project item to suit the material procurement needs of the
	delivery project.
- If you select the Std. Planned Part check box, the relevant MPL
Part field must have the value Demand. This is the default value for the
MPL Part field in Project Delivery.

System Effects
  - An engineering part will be created.
- The first revision of the engineering part will be created if desired.
- Characteristics, manufacturers, and alternative parts can be registered for the
    engineering parts.
- If a revision exists with a structure, characteristics rollup calculations for a
    specified attribute can be run.
- When a new revision is created for an existing part and the Std Planned Part check box
	is selected in the
	Create New Engineering Part
step in the Create New Part assistant , it will be
	automatically copied to
      the
	Product Structure window.

Procedure
In the
Engineering Parts window:
  - In a new line, either enter a part number or leave the field blank to have the system
    generate a part number.
- Enter a standard name or select one from the List of Values.
- If a default value is specified for the entry code PART_REV on the
	Product Basic
	Data/Defaults
    tab, it
will appear automatically in the First Revision field. You can
change the value now, or if you do not want to automatically create a first revision, leave the field empty.
- Enter a description of the engineering part.
- Enter values in the remaining fields either now or later.
- Save the information.

When you are working with a part structure on the
Engineering Part Revision/Consists Of tab, you can insert a part that does not exist as
an engineering part. Before you save your changes, you must create the engineering parts.
Right-click, and then click the Create Engineering Part
menu option to create the part. Follow the method below:
  - Select the parts that do not exist as engineering parts (the parts that have empty
     Part
    Name and Part Description fields).
- Right-click, and then click Create New Part. The selected parts will be
    transferred to the
	Engineering Parts window.
- If you imported a file from an external system  using the Import External Structure
	activity, the part
description from the import file is also transferred to the
	Engineering Parts
    window.
- Enter the required information and save the records.
- Go back to the
	Engineering
Part Revision/Consist Of tab and save the record.
